Ethylene Glycol: Domestic Upgrading, Limited Import And High Dependence

In April, the import of ethylene glycol increased sharply. The total import volume was 936 thousand and 900 tons in that month, an increase of 4.40% compared to the same period, an increase of 10.93% over the same period last year.

From the statistics of port arrival statistics in April, the data of East China ethylene glycol arrived at 887 thousand tons, and the statistics of total samples showed that the total import volume of 937 thousand tons was basically consistent with the market expectations.

The surge in imports caused domestic port stocks to stay high in April, causing market prices to plummet all the way.

Saudi Arabia, Canada, Kuwait and Taiwan are still the main sources of import of ethylene glycol, accounting for 75%-80% of total domestic imports.

The impact of Sino US trade friction began in August last year. The import of ethylene glycol from the United States increased by 25% to 30.5%. The import of ethylene glycol in the United States was greatly reduced. On the contrary, the volume of imports from Canada steadily increased.

On the whole, the total import of ethylene glycol in 1-4 months of 2019 kept a steady increase. The total import volume of 3 million 546 thousand and 700 tons in 1-4 months and 4.73% in the annulus.
