Bangladesh Clothing Zero Tariff US Market Preference

At present, the total annual garment export value of Bangladesh reaches 18 billion US dollars, of which exports to the United States account for about 40% of its total clothing exports. Exports to Europe account for more than half of Bangladesh's clothing exports, with the rest going to India, Australia, South Africa, Japan and New Zealand.


Recently, AK Azad, President of the Bangladeshi Federation of industry and Commerce (fbcci), led a 20 member trade delegation to the United States as part of the visit to New York by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.


Bangladesh's mission to the United States is to promote clothing exports. "During our visit, U.S. trade leaders assured us that the issue of clothing exports from Bangladesh will first be brought to the office of the United States trade representative," said a member of the delegation. Subsequently, a bill will be submitted to the Senate to give Bangladesh clothing duty-free access to the U.S. market. Therefore, we are very optimistic that Bangladeshi ready to wear garments will soon be free to enter the U.S. market free of duty. "


Bangladesh is the third largest exporter of clothing in the U.S. market. If Bangladesh can obtain the right of duty-free access to the U.S. market, Bangladesh will become the most interested Investment Center for investors. As garment is the largest export product of Bangladesh, it will promote the economic development of the whole country.
